Aaron Funk, he's got the spunk, his music is well punk, it makes me wanna dunk my chunk. So here's 'Filth', another brain-blasting hyper rave oddessey from Venetian Snares, this time nailing the more melodic side of his ouvre to his multi-pronged dance-murdering battle cruiser. A man seemingly determined to give zombified banks of day-glo rave kidz hernias by their early 20s. A frowning Canadian giant of a misanthrope who probably has a robot bull mastiff in his back yard and an electrified fence covered in sticky black tar all round his iron bunker in the middle of Glen Benton Woods. I once saw our Ant dancing like a stoned body popper to him playing "live" on a Thursday night, dressed in a motorway service jacket whilst holding two pints. He didn't spill a drop. I didn't even know him then but made a mental note to be his friend. Do you really want an actual review of this record? It's fantastic, one of the most accesible & "braindancey" things he's done but it still sounds like the work of a maniac. Not a jungle pastiche like the last one, It's like AFX's evil black toothed twin just coughed up a hair ball. 2xLP & CeeDee.* Venetian Snares, a.k.a. Vsnares, a.k.a. Last Step, has once again turned his toilet fantasies into something you can buy at the store, and shove in your mouth.
* Financing the dubstep scene since 2005, Venetian Snares has somehow again, not bothered to make anything remotely like a Burial record from 3 years ago, instead reaching deep down into the bottomless pit of electronic
genres gone by and digging out acid techno for a thoroughly humiliating deconstruction of the sound.
* This is the BEST acid record ever made! Venetian Snares actually made sweet love to his 303s whilst watching Top Gun on repeat. The end result is something that Goose would have been proud to die listening to. Heavy ripping unconventional timed off beats blast away any winter cobwebs and are 100% guaranteed to remind the listener why some things are best left to the professionals.
