I'm well into this new Bat For Lashes album. I never really heard the last one much and when I did hear it I don't think I was that arsed about it. Me being the fickle soul and perhaps the extra exposure to this album (we've had a promo kicking around for a while) means it's had time to sink in. The thing that I really like about this is her song writing..... They're just so damned good! Also there's some duffer from Yeasayer on there, Pearl (who is actually an alter ego of Bat For Lashes who is described as a destructive femme fatale!) and Scott Walker brings his vocal talents on the albums closing track The Big Sleep (no pigeons on this one). There's something really exotic about this record. It has a strange mystical otherworldly feel to it whilst being supremely poppy. The obvious comparisons to Kate Bush still stand for me. I can hear bits of Kate Bush on almost every track but then she's been such a massive influence to so many people you can forgive her for that. Especially as she seems to draw from the Dreaming era which is fucking nuts. There's a fair amount of Fleetwood Mac/ Stevie Nicks on a few tracks as well. the new single Daniel sounds so much like Stevie Nicks/ Fleetwood Mac it's untrue. I guess there's nods to Bjork in there as well. It's a mish mash of ideas which gel perfectly and make Two Suns a great pop album and one I'll be winging home with me tonight. STOP THE PRESS. I've just gone home and listened to the 1st album after swiftly grabbing the last vinyl copy we had and am officially blown away. Don't know quite how I didn't get it before but she's seriously filling in the Kate Bush sized gap in my life which has been empty since Hounds of Love. Ok there's a couple of good tracks on The Sensual World..... Woohoo! Someone new to like!! this is the sound that Florence thinks she makes - but journalists seem to like middle class safe kooky and eccentric Florence (with her cover versions) rather than this more intriguing and interesting music and vocalist. like an edgy Kate Bush fronting Arcade Fire or American Music Club. worthy of your listening time for sure!
