Wake The President have a sweet lil' split out with Norway's Je Suis Animal and it's an indie pop cracker. WTP's 'Miss Tierney' is perfect classic Scots jangle pop that really reminds me of Close Lobsters & early Sarah records, you know, that gorgeous guitar line makes me feel 15 again. It's probably the best tune i've heard from them, I love his slightly crumpled Scots accent and the jaunty pace & feelgood factor of the tune is just wonderful. JSA are more along the lines of early Stereolab with a slightly gothic Spectorish echo and their tune finishes far to quickly. That doesn't mean they're holding anyone hostage with a gun in an abandoned vault BTW. It's also worth noting the drummer, Matt, used to be singer & guitarist with Derby's mighty emo shouters Cable. God bless Wikipedia. Ltd 7" split between Electric Honey & Lucky Number 9 recs.

Wake the President – the Glasgow-based indie pop four-piece – are set to follow the March 9th release of their eagerly anticipated debut album on Electric Honey Records by releasing a split single with Oslo-based dream pop quintet Je Suis Animal. The band have long been a fixture on Glasgow’s richly diverse musical landscape, perfecting their ebullient, shimmering jangle pop, and garnering rightful renown near and far. Their previous two singles – ‘Remember Fun?’ and ‘You Can’t Change That Boy’ – were deemed ‘single of the week’ by Stuart Maconie and Mark Radcliffe (BBC Radio 2), later leading to the band being invited to perform a live studio session on the show. Further fans in Vic Galloway (BBC Radio Scotland) and Jim Gellatly (XFM Scotland) have followed, and this year looks set to be a deservedly fruitful one for Wake the President. With ‘Miss Tierney’s brief, bounding two minute and fifty-nine second stomp, this brave, literary, playful band have – once again – produced superb single: elliptical, wry lyrics set against chiming, effervescent guitar, restless, driving bass line and deft, intelligent drums. Few bands can craft songs that are so immediately enjoyable, while continuing to reveal new and intricate details with repeated listening. But this is the essence of Wake the President: a willingness to wear their influences on their sleeve, but also a distinct desire to confound expectations. But if anything can certainly be expected, it is that we shall certainly be hearing a great deal more from Wake the President …
