L'Ocelle Mare by L'ocelle Mare

Thanks for the huge bag full of concerned letters after I was announced as being AWOL last week. Sometimes you just need a bit of time to clear your head, especially when you've ceased to be the new exciting thing in town because your boss has employed some leg-flashing floozy in shoulderpads. And thanks to the guy who lent me his shoes near the transporter bridge in Middlesbrough, I couldn't have made it back without you! Right, this L'ocelle Mare is confusing because it's on Minority, a Czech label, but all the stuff's in French. And it's confusing because it's in a vinyl edition of 222.. People are well whimsical with their number choices these days. This is apparently the solo project of the guitarist from Cheval de Frise who I don't know but I'd be interested in checking out after hearing this avant-garde tour de force. His acoustic guitar runs through a fair gamut of styles - jazz, classical, flamenco, raga, the lot. I particularly enjoy the tracks where he goes off on an atonal Jandek-y one. Apparently he accompanies himself by tapping his feet on the floor as well, the clever bugger!

L'Ocelle Mare is the solo project from Thomas Bonvalet, guitarist from Cheval de Frise who almost approaches the guitar in the same manner Cecil Taylor did the piano. While playing his classical acoustic guitar, he taps his feet feverishly and purposely, along with his compositions. His techniques are all quite unconventional, yet positively original. Comes in a very limited edition.
