Butcher Boy - React Or Die

React Or Die by Butcher Boy

“Inspired by monochrome movies and bleak winters, these cello-and-viola-flecked songs transcend their Smiths, Tindersticks and Felt influences. Regret, giro-funded couplets, sensual ambiguity – it’s all here, resurrecting a great British genre” Uncut. Second album by the acclaimed indie pop octet from Glasgow. Features the single, “Carve A Pattern”, which was the Record Of The Week on the Radcliffe and Maconie show on Radio 2 and played on xfm in London and Manchester, Radio 1 in Scotland and BBC Scotland. A second single (with accompanying video) is out March 23. The album has already been praised by Belle & Sebastian’s Stuart Murdoch, who called it: “A great listen, a real classy record from start to finish” in his online diary, and Butcher Boy were tipped at the start of 2009 by Stereogum. Butcher Boy’s debut album, “Profit In Your Poetry”, released in 2007, received widespread critical acclaim. The Guardian praised the band’s “swooning strings and keening melodies”. Mail on Sunday approved of the band’s “literate, bohemian music nourished by the darker strains of Sixties chart pop,” while Drowned In Sound declared: “It's an album of immense subtlety and depth, the kind of record you can listen to fifty times and still discover hidden treasures on that fifty first spin.” In 2008, the band’s song “I Know Who You Could Be” (from their debut), featured in the CBS sci-fi TV show in the US, which was subsequently aired in the UK on Living. As a result, “Profit In Your Poetry” was released in the US in October 2008. Press : Uncut, Plan B, Artrocker, Clash, Rock N Reel, Mojo, Rocksound, Record Collector with more TBC.
