Filthy Dukes release their debut album ‘Nonsense In The Dark’ on 16th March. Recorded on the mixing desk of producer and Krautrock legend Conny Plank (the very desk that Kraftwerk used to make those albums back in the day), ‘Nonsense In The Dark’ showcases Filthy Dukes’ unique, analogue electro-indie-kraut-pop. A host of great artists also lend guest vocals to the album including Orlando Weeks (The Maccabees), Brandon Curtis (Secret Machines), Tommy Sparks, frYars, Plastic Little and more.
It's precedeed with their new single ‘This Rhythm’ on 9th March featuring Samuel Dust from Late Of The Pier on guest vocals. The infectious disco-noir track has the makings of a dancefloor classic and comes with essential remixes from Fred Falke, Emperor Machine, Toddla T and Filthy Dukes own Kill Em All version.
The London three-piece of Tim Lawton, Olly Dixon and Mark Ralph first met Samuel when they put on one of Late of The Pier’s first London gigs at the Dukes’ now legendary dance rock club night Kill Em All (now a regular fixture at fabric). Samuel’s vocal was recorded in his room while his mum was sleeping next door – that’s the sound of Sam singing in hushed tones from his bedroom.
‘This Rhythm’ is the follow up to November’s bombastic limited edition single ‘Tupac Robot Club Rock’ featuring Plastic Little which was played across Radio 1 (including a Sara Cox SOTW) Kiss, Galaxy, Xfm, NME and Ministry FM while killing it in the clubs.
'This Rhythm' has picked up where 'Tupac..' left off, continuing to make great strides in establishing the bands as Ones To Watch this year - so far it's secured 2 daytime Sara Cox plays again at Radio 1, support from Kiss, XFM stalwarts Eddy Temple-Morris and John Kennedy, Galaxy, Ministry and even Kerrang!
It's #10 on the Cool Cuts club chart, with across-the-board top reactions from DJs and dancefloors. There has been a marked increase noted on punter-requests for the track, from the tastemaker circuit right across to NME clubnights.
It's been track of the month at Mixmag with a 5* review, and on the Music Week playlist. A full page NME feature is confirmed around release, as well as pieces in Time Out and album reviews locked in across the board (with Company heralding their first dip into mainstream-proper with a blinding 5* album review in the bag).
The video has clocked up an impressive 100,000 views on Youtube already, and the new fans gained from reaching out to the various places on offer - be it the fanbases of those affiliated with the group (from Late Of The Pier on this single to other album guests), to their strong following on the UK club circuit and their Fabric association, plus those picked up from touring with Secret Machines and headlining their own shows, all contributes to laying the foundations for the rest of the year.
Looking ahead already to post This Rhythm, next up will be the release of the most crossover single on the album Messages featuring Tommy Sparks in June (following Tommy's own single release in May, this sees Filthy Dukes poised to capitalise on his newly built profile), as the band embark on a full house of festivals this summer, solidifying their position as THE band to watch in 2009, as they steal the 'best dance live act around' gong from the likes of Chemical Brothers, Hot Chip, Mylo and Basement Jaxx.
