'I Can Wonder What You Did With Your Day' sees Julie Doiron on fine form and easily her most rocking solo outing to date. You may be aware of Julie Doiron for her work with the recently reformed Canadian lo-fi indie rock outfit Eric's Trip which would explain recording credit for fellow Eric's Trip founder Rick White. They may not be an item any more but it's nice to know they are still pals. Anyway, Doiron's music is simple, honest, upbeat and direct with the production emphasizing the bedroom music feel. The majority of tracks are stripped down acoustic guitar and vocal cuts that have a tiny small cute sound similar to Kimya Dawson. Other tracks see Doiron joined by a full band and have a sludgy, grungy sound that you'd could associate with Eric's Trip as well as Sebadoh, Juliana Hatfield and a bunch of other lo-fi indie rockers. This is Cat Power on an super positive day or Ida Maria in a real relaxed mood. A very quiet, calm and ultimately enjoyable release. Really beautifully illustrated cover art too!
