Hehe. That Micachu lass is a right 'un ain't she. Not content with thoroughly energising the London DIY scene single handedly, she seems to have taken it upon herself (on half the tracks accompanied by her mates, the Shapes) to make a blistering pop headfuck of an album, 'Jewellery'. Opening with the bouncing, pummelling 'Vulture' which is as scratchy, abrasive & delightful a start as you like, 'Lips' takes this trashy full frontal attitude further with huge bursts of fuck-off white sludge burying the incessantly catchy rhythyms. The songs come at you like addictive junkshop psycho-pop darts, sounding like some deranged kids are busking their hearts out after hearing some of Beck's more unhinged moments and lots of pirate radio grime & embryonic "wonky". I can't believe how simple but astoundingly layered these songs are. Such a pure home-made feel, the vocals are really homely & conversational too, so many mad ideas, so many twisted & giddy tunes with myriad hooks & spellbinding effects. I'm totally unsurprised this 3 piece are on the cover of every magazine, making delightful, original & carefree pop as vibrant & raucous as this. I like the way Matthew Herbert seems to have taken the base elements, sprinkled them with his boffin's bag of tricks without remotely compromising the precious essence of Mica & (her chums!) vision. A kaleidoscopic wonder, you'll keep going back to this album for a long time, I assure you.

Rough Trade Records are delighted to announce the signing of 21 year old Mica Levi
AKA Micachu, undoubtedly one of the most heavily tipped hot new act status for 2009.

· The imminent release of Micachu’s debut album ‘Jewellery’ is stirring up a lot of press and
radio excitement, with the NME and Ed Potten (music editor of The Times) eager for
features and early support coming from both Radio 1 and 6Music. She has also received a
great cover feature from taste makers Plan B and positive reviews from Q, The
Independent, Uncut and others.
· Equally at home making brilliant leftfield pop, as she is composing for orchestras and making
mix, it comes as no surprise that Micachu’s Matthew Herbert-produced debut is a multicoloured,
multi-layered conflation of ground breaking sounds and ideas.
· Things are about to really kick off online with six good remixes of ‘Lips’ set to sweep the blogs
along with a number of band generated virals. Micachu is currently spreading the excitement
nationwide via an extensive tour of the UK with Late Of The Pier and is set to play this year’s
SXSW.
· Mica Levi (vocals, guitar and electronics), Raisa Khan (keys), Marc Pell (drums).
· “Jewellery is an extraordinary introduction to a unique new talent” – Q, “An ear-bashing of
crazy-paving beats, junk-shop punk, electronic drones and deceptively mellifluous bedsit pop” –
The Times, “A terrific, gnarly racket” – Uncut, “Staggeringly inventive, madly capricious, and
utterly unpredictable, this is pop for the 2010s” – Dazed & Confused, “Ridiculously talented”
– The London Paper.
