Marmaduke Duke release their debut (I think) single on 14h Floor Records. Kid Gloves is a slab of synth pop with massive nods to Death Cab For Cutie and possibly a but of the Postal Service. It's very gentle and quite 80's sounding. It's not half as bad as I thought it would be and that's always a bonus. Though Marmaduke Duke is a shite name I have to say.TRACKLISTING: 7" Pic A) Kid Gloves, B) Nusrup Fateh Ali Wouldn't,

OVERVIEW: Marmaduke Duke, the self-created surreal musical world of enigmatic Scottish duo The Atmosphere and The Dragon, two frontmen better known as Simon Neil of Biffy Clyro and JP Reid of Sucioperro, will release the single 'Kid Gloves' through 14th Floor Records on 2nd March. 'Kid Gloves' is the first single to come from Marmaduke Duke's forthcoming second album 'Duke Pandemonium' - part two of a three part mythological musical trilogy, performed and produced by The Atmosphere and The Dragon in 24 hours, and mixed by Rich Costey (Muse, Mars Volta, Bloc Party). Reminiscent in part to the lo-fi electronica of The Postal Service, and wholly haunting in its minimalist electronica and entrancing vocal harmonies - which feature guest vocals from Sneaky Sound System's Connie Mitchell - 'Kid Gloves' is a poignant moment on an album of unmatchable eclectic sounds and styles as The Atmosphere and The Dragon endeavour to take you on a dark and mystical journey with The Duke. And what about The Duke himself? He is perceived by The Atmosphere and The Dragon as a wandering soul, a personification of man's most primitive and often under-explored impulses. In the debut album The Magnificent Duke, The Duke charted his slow descent into psychosis as represented by three differing musical suites - larynx-shredding rock, head-mashing ambient and heart-melting acoustic. In Duke Pandemonium, we see a change in the duke: The Duke is back and is ready to party. This is a soundtrack to hedonism, decadence, deviance and dancing and 'Kid Gloves' is its audacious and deceptively restrained illustration of the hedonistic partying to follow.
