What their label says...

The redoubtable LoDubs presents ‘Starkbass’, A DJ mix by Phillidelphia's foremost native son Starkey, known throughout the world as the undisputed king of the dubstep / club/ grime / wonky / bassline hybrid that The Mayor Of Starkville himself names Streetbass. Although largely composed variants on dubstep, this 25 track session made up almost completely of unreleased material, shows how just how the genius from the east can relentlessly tie all these elements together in the mix, with an air that sounds as if they were all part of some larger style. Anyone witness to one of his dozens of much discussed live sessions across the globe in recent history will know all too well what vibe this is on… that is to say, you won’t know until you hear it. ‘Starkbass’, as an album, captures this essence precisely. In the process of jumping around the planet with an arsenal of beastly tunes of his own creation, and the experience of being one of the chosen selectors on Mary Anne Hobbs Generation Bass special last year, Starkey has developed a keen ear for hotness from both established artists and the newest producers, allowing him access to the absolute freshest tunes, which is imediately apparent in the names making up the mix. Features emerging artists like O-Dessa, Kotchy, Stenchman and Rafertie - just about to blow up large with releases on Seclusiasis and Planet Mu - to big hitters like Zomby, Joker, Geeneus, DZ, Drop The Lime and Cardopusher, who all came forward with their prime goods, and many more with their exclusive bits they saved for just such a mega occasion, including Toast, Food For Animals, Bok Bok, Meesha, Syntonics, XI, Wonder, Pacheko, BD1982, Dubsworth… and of course, the man like Starkey his bad self. Clearing up any question that his hugely recieved full length ‘Ephemral Exibits’ recently released on Planet Mu could be a single lightning strike, ‘Starkbass’ is the step beyond across the scorched earth, vividly showcasing all the styles that make up the Starkobot.
