What fun mistakes can sometimes be. In his haste to purchase all the new music in the world before it disappears for good, Our Phil has sourced a new CD of blistering electronica by Stendeck, understandably mistaking it for the old Stendec who had stuff out on Static Caravan & Expanding. Only thing is, 'Sonnambula' is actually a great deal more impressive than expected. The scope of sound is huge, skittering beats, under laid with glitchy patterns, stately synth lines hovering monumentally over a palette of rich sound, sometimes industrially caustic, often ambiently soothing. I'm reminded of the glory days of Skam, Toytronic/Worm Interface & Ai & Russian practitioners such as Novel 23. The level of production is second-to-none, modern "IDM" with many nuances, a twisting, turning rollercoaster of absorbing, shifting beats, stunning emotive keys, all deeply layered with some serious electronic boffin nous. He's had a handful of previous CD releases this decade has Mr. Zampieri & this fine symphonic-tronic opus definitely makes me want to check them out. Except they all seem to be rather sought after, unsurprisingly. Posh digipak thru Tympanic Audio.Combining epic synth patterns with stunning piano movements and a subtle dose of distorted
rhythmic beats, Stendeck’s long-awaited new album ‘Sonnambula‘ injects an air of
originality and purpose that will both inspire and move its listener to elated heights. With one
astounding song composition after the next, ‘Sonnambula‘ conjures up the true ingredients
of intelligent electronica, driven by distortion-tinged beats, soaring synth-lines, and modern
classical elements that spew emotion from every surface.
This is without a doubt Stendeck’s finest hour…
