Devils Trident (The Remixes) by Telepathe

I thought that Telepathe album was pretty good. Not amazing but I think they've definitely got potential amazingness in them, maybe when they stop lezzing up and put some real bloody effort in. Here we've got a fancily packaged 12" of remixes by the likes of Big Pink and previous 'Norman Records Music Emporium Inc. PLC. Single of the Week' winners Mi-Ami. To be honest I think the original track, 'Devil's Trident', is one of my least favourite of theirs (although I know that's obviously completely wrong because everyone else loves it) but these mixes are uniformly ace. The seductive vocal interplay works a treat over the top of more beat-heavy arrangements, with some sounding like Chicks on Speed or maybe Tom Tom Club (the Big Pink remix, maybe our favourite) and others accentuating the dreamy elements with lashings and lashings of echo and delay (the amazingly titled 'Teengirl Fantasy Basic Sensation Dub'). Personally I'm quite keen on Mi-Ami's take on things, it's like icy dub techno melting in a microwave carried by a scantily clad booty jiggler at the Rio carnival. Super duper! Nice/confusing folding poster/sleeve too.. If you have trouble folding maps you might want to steer clear.

A selection of unique Remixes of our favourite record in recent memory, made in coordination with our friends at the worlds best blog "Twenty Jazz Funk Greats". Remixes of Telepathe's "Devils Trident"
From the Big Pink's personal dubstep hell, to a 12 minute tribal groove from MI AMI, via Teengirl Fantasy's hypnotic screwed electronica and a brass heavy Planningtorock remix from Germany, each remix defies the term 'remix' to become something perfect in it's own right.
Packaged in a unique and beautiful poster made from an original painting by Edward Quarmby (of OX.EAGLE.LION.MAN) the artwork is itself a reimagining or 'remixing' of the original minimalist artwork he himself designed.
