This here Yagya 'Rigning' album on Sending Orbs has been due for mega ages and has finally arrived after we doubted its actual existance. It is currently easing us all mentally and physically with it's sultry and sublime ambient tones and downtempo dub techno. On several occasions I'm thinking this will appeal to Rod Modell/Deep Chord Followers as well as 'Radiance' style Basic Channel. This bears many of the hallmarks of a fine chillout/artificial intelligence album and may appeal to fans of older chilled electronica circa Apollo, Toytronic, Worm Interface and so on.Reykjavik based producer Aðalsteinn Guðmundsson has been creating atmospheres through melody and sounds for more than a decade. A definitive member of the Thule Musik collective, he is also is known for his work as half of Sanasol and also the famed Plastic. He concentrates on atmospheres and moods and tries to reflect the beauty of the world around him in the sounds of his music, seeking influence in the works of Gas, Philip Glass, Basic Channel, and Brian Eno. Emphasising the softer side of music and avoiding heavy rhythms, he finds harmony and beauty in the simple sounds of nature. ‘Rigning’ is the Icelandic word for rain and is Yagya’s third full-length, following 2006’s ‘Will I Dream During The Process?’ best-seller on Sending Orbs, and ‘Rythm of Snow’ in 2002 for Force Inc. ‘Rigning’ is a new step forward for Yagya and may well contain the prettiest and saddest melodies ever heard on a dub techno/ambient record. The album consists of 10 tracks that are simply named accordingly ‘Rigning 1’ to ‘Rigning 10,’ which is also the theme that ties the whole work together. For everyone who’s already familiar with Yagya, the best way of describing ‘Rigning’ is that it has evolved out of the process from previous releases while maintaining a focus on simplicity and beauty. For new listeners, it is almost impossible to describe the music without resorting to cliché. The music is hushed, melancholic and dreamy, driven forward by warm soothing basslines and chilly dub chords. The mixture of hope, warmth and beauty in the melodies are at times so gripping as to bring a tear to the eye, and Yagya proves that he makes timeless electronic music sufficient to be considered a true master of the genre.
