The Morning Benders - Talking Through Tin Cans

Talking Through Tin Cans by The Morning Benders

2...according to our on Thu 06 May, 2010.

No. I just don't understand half the stuff that's being made these days. Plodding yawn-some 70s-flecked college rock, as densely layered & wonderfully produced as it often is, fails to ignite me. All. These. Bloody. Bands falling somewhere in between what Field Music did so bloody well but which fell to deaf ears years ago and the grandoise, ballroom straddling chamber pop of Grizzly Bear: they all begin to sound bloated, laboured, sleepy & turgid. The Seventies was a pretty horrendous time for Western pop so why these people want to mine that laconic drive-time sound again. This is why new wave & post punk was & is still exciting. Why certain headz is goin' mad for obscure European synth pop. Cos it still sounds f-r-e-s-h!! I don't wanna hear any more fucking bands influenced by the fucking Beach Boys or 10cc. Not. Ever. Again. Fuck off.

(Part Of The March Cargo Collective) The Morning Benders are set to release their debut album “Talking Through Tin Cans” on Monday 9th March 2009 on +1 Records. The band also release their debut single “Waiting for a War” on the same day. Chris Chu (vocals, guitar), Joe Ferrell (guitar, Rhodes), Julian Harmon (drums) and David Perales (bass) hail from sunny San Francisco, which explains their sixties-esque sunshine pop sound that has been likened to The Beach Boys. Chu  started the band in 2005 and met the rest of the boys whilst studying in Berkley, CA in 2006. The guys now all live in a house together in perfect harmony ala The Monkees. Back in the USA, The Morning Benders have shared stages with the likes of MGMT, White Rabbits and Deerhunter, earning them kudos with the cool kids on the other side of the pond. They have also previously released EP’s and singles in the States and an album of collection of cover versions of their favourite artists from The Smiths to The Crystals. “Talking Through Tin Cans” was recorded at various studios in the mission district of San Francisco. Chu took up a job as an assistant engineer to fund the recording process and ended up being able to produce the album.
