Schengen - The Beijing Of Our Career

The Beijing Of Our Career by Schengen

Not heard owt by the venerable Schengen for a fair while. 'The Beijing of our Career' is a new CD by the duo and begins with a brilliant electronica/techno hybrid that recalls early Ai records, all emotive Carl Craig synths and dubbed out Berlin techno shards over a rhythmic, pulsing wall of playful rolling beats. A delightful intro! 'Baked' reminds me of The Orb, BOC and Future Sound of London, with it's cheery dub bassline, samples of hazy dialogue and sunny ambient synths. I think the subtle muffled beats are very sympathetic to the structure of the tune, letting it's freshness roll over you. I think that's the trick here, this music is very organic and uplifting - lots of free flowing moods & pieces that slot together seamlessly - with lots of inspiration taken from the last 2 decades of electronica/ambient & dance culture. This album has a dreamy DIY attitude with an early 90's post-shoegaze/sub-Detroit pulse but a fresh 00's twist & some delicious sounds. Invest a bit of your time in these boys! CD only on Make Mine Music.
