Cities Burning Down by Howling Bells

While office conversation discusses the benefits of hoovering your mattress I slip on the 'Cities Burning Down' single from Howling Bells. It's a decent tune and I like the sound of the lady's voice. It's quite a big sounding tune. Despite it being quite polished and vaguely commercial it's in no way disposable. Apparently the NME are creaming over them. If you liked their single then you'll be wanting this to be its friend. Brian is really reminded of The Duke Spirit but reckons that these are way better at what they do. He knows far more than I do about this type of thing so you can be assured he's talking sense (nonce-sense). Worth noting is that it is on red vinyl and comes in red pvc slip. I like slips, like Gym slips.

· In case you didn’t realise it, Howling Bells are
back with a vengeance in 2009.
· You would, in all probability, have heard the first,
scintillating taster of what’s to come with ‘Into the
Chaos’, which NME named their Track of the Week
and which went on to burn up the airwaves as well with
its intoxicating mixture of smouldering vocals and
dizzying strings. But it is with ‘Cities Burning Down’,
their first full single release from their forthcoming,
lushly Technicolor second album ‘Cities Burning Down’,
that the Bells really show what they have in store for us.
· What’s more, it is released as a beautiful 7” with
red coloured vinyl and gorgeous artwork.
