Eugene McGuinness - Fonz

Fonz by Eugene McGuinness

4...according to our on Fri 20 Feb, 2009.

Eugene McGuinness is a bit of a mystery to me. He's Domino record's sleeper hit/tax loss, his striking sleeve imagery has led us to investigate new 7" 'Fonz', which as you can see features the flipside image of where Terry Wogan could have gone with his life if he just listened to Elvis and drank Theakstons XB by the gallon. Well, I won't spend long on this. It's a really catchy, kind of pace-y breathless Smiths-esque romp with a lot of mid-period Cass McCombs in there, a smidgeon of later Talking Heads and it may well also appeal to fans of the like of New Rhodes etc (although this guy is a bit more unhinged & inventive, loads of quirky little shards of instrumental fallout in his songs) A breeze, should check out more. 7" only....

· Domino are proud to release ‘Fonz’ as the
second single from Eugene’s self titled album
released last year.
· With a lyrical nod to Scott Walker (which coming
from a 22 year old adds extra poignancy) ‘Fonz’
is imaginative and utterly charming in Eugene
McGuiness’ unique, inimitable style.
· The 7” is limited to 300 copies.
