Do I take the Aidan Moffat 'How To Get To Heaven From Scotland' box set is the question that's been annoying me all week. Now I've seen it I want it. It's just about the best packaged thing I've seen in ages. You get an LP, a CD of the album, a bonus 5 track CD, a covers band 7", an Aidan Moffat board game and a signed valentines card just so you know he really does love you. It's a lesson in value for money if you ask me and those folks who do luxury box sets and charge the earth for essentially an extra bit of paper should take heed. Times are hard and folks want value for money! Mind you there's no point spending 35 quid on an album if it's shite. Fortunately it's not shite... and on second listen Moffat's warm sounding songs and doing the business. I had a love/ hat (was gonna correct it to hate but thought hat sounded better) relationship with Arab Strap. Really loved a couple of the albums, hated some others and saw them live 4 times and they annoyed me senseless. There's an undoubted charm to the man's voice and the songs here and it's about a million miles away from his Lucky Pierre persona. Very simple sounding folk influenced songs about the darker side of relationships and there's a weird upbeat feel to it all. I have to say I'm sold. This is a bit tasty and it's just in time for Valentine's day! On CD as well!· This is Aidan Moffat’s first full band incarnation
since the demise of Arab Strap back in 2006.
· This is a surprisingly upbeat album by Aidan’s
standards, and about as playful and cheerful as he’s
likely to get.
· The extensive LP box set has been personally put
together by Aidan himself and includes a personally
signed Valentines card and board game with die
and counters.
· The limited edition (1000 copies) vinyl box set
includes a vinyl LP, CD album, five track CD EP, 7”
single, board game and numbered Valentine Card,
signed by Aidan himself, all packaged in a special
‘MB Games’ style box.
