Second Chants by Sore Eros

I love a spot of dreamy cosmic Americana me. Sore Eros (featuring the supremely off-kilter genius of Gary War & friends!) are the latest psych-Yank hopes launched onto these humble shores, a curious long player arriving in my fat lap through the Shdwply imprint. Being scared of vowels is of no real concern when yr putting out records like this. Side One is like a beautiful fucked Flaming-Lips-down-the-back-of-the-sofa style romp, full of hazy lo-fi sideways pop that strokes yr face, sits on your lap and caresses yr (metaphorical) crotch. Side 2 begins with the sound of Ariel Pink being sick on the Cocteau Twins, tumbles into wistful psych folk territory and lies down with a huge wobbly spliff. The vocals are so carelessly detached from reality, floating across the room like a stoned ghost, the music is hugely comforting, lazily melodic, languid yet strikingly detailed. There's so many dinky little hooks and sweet classic touches to 'Second Chants', you just know each play will reveal a fresh shaggy afghan coat of tripped out delights and fascinating spores. Like early Mercury Rev in a hookah bar with an embryonic Tindersticks, NY's legendary Eggs and Animal Collective's druggier, shambling alter ego. That's what I can hear in these captivating grooves! Vinyl only....

500 cpoies only, SHDWPLY drop another winner, we are getting 250, it will become golddust, fans of Animal Collective, Panda Bear (etc etc etc)...are going to blow their minds with this....AC might take album of the year with MPP, but Sore Eros will startle people with this album of soulful dream folk, from a field in Conneticut, this could be one of the best things to emerge in 09: highly recommended release from one of our labels of 09!...
