It's been a while since I've heard anything on Jahtari but here's a wee Disrupt 7" to.. Disrupt that, I suppose. The artwork's by KLF lad Jimmy Cauty too, it looks like the sumo wrestler's being bummed by a robot but it's still not really a patch on that browntastic Lord of the Rings poster he did or owt. True to form, 'Bezerk Dub' is a skankin' electroid chipstep beauty complete with ultra cheesy robotic samples and a tidy line in lo-fi synth lines.. It sort of sounds like someone trying to play digidub with a broken kids' Bontempi, in the nicest possible way. Maybe reminiscent of the more playful On-U Sound stuff.. I think I might've said that about Jahtari stuf before but never mind. The flip, 'Echobombing' is a far denser production but no less enjoyable. Good record!Oh yes – with some all new pressure to kick off the nought-nine, Disrupt is back on the joysticks and having another go on the sub-bass highscore with these two fresh robo-skanking low-end belters. ‘Berzerk Dub’ is a raw elektro-dub joint in the 80s spirit, driven by a simple drum machine beat, straight-up heavy heavy bass, and spooky robot chatter. The tune also salutes Berzerk, the 1980 arcade game which was the first ever to use speech-synthesis, and at the same time pays tribute to Peter Burkowski, the first person die (of a heart attack in 1982) while playing a computer game… you guessed it, he was on Berzerk at the time. On the flip, ‘Echobombing’ is self-explanitory… an ultra-heavy bass, set to bomb any floor, riding a hip hop beatbox and some rough 8bit-skanks, with plenty of surprising turns and twists along the way. Always pushing the dub sound onwards with fresh ideas and equal amounts of dirty heaviness and a good dose of humour, there's no end in sight for future Disrupt goodness. Both tracks are utterly exclusively new and a rapid sell-out is a certainty, so get your pre-order in now. Mastered for maximum effect at Berlin’s Dubplate & Mastering, this 7“ is limited to 700 copies and comes with awesome full colour sleeve artwork by KLF don Jimmy Cauty.
