Francoiz Breut has a new CD out on CTRL ALT DEL called A L'Aveuglette. The first time this was played in the office there were positive grunts made and a general feel of approval was eshaled by all. Even Clinton e mailed in to say he liked it. Things like this never really happen as we're all such a set of awkward bastards who hate each other and everything to do with everything that when something like this actually does happen its like seeing a rare comet or something. OK I'm probably exaggerating a wee bit...Anyway this is quite simply lovely. Beautiful songs, beautifully produced and beautifully played. It's all sung in French so you'll either have to go to night school to suss out what she's on about or hot chip along like I do (pretend you know the words but sing along badly like you've got a hot chip in your mouth). There's lot of lovely sounding percussion on the album which is appealing to my drummers ears. That and the melty sounding vocals from Francoiz pouring all over the delicious tunes make for a wonderful listen. I'm struggling to think of comparisons but do check it out as it's really a very good album.Acavalcade, as smooth as fur: here is "à l’aveuglette", the new album from Françoiz
Breut.
After « Une saison volée » (2005), an opportunity to rediscover this unique voice both light and carnal, to immerse ourselves once more in her universe. Anew album, with surprises tucked into each of its fourteen songs.
After more than 10 years singing other people’s lyrics, Françoiz Breut has chosen to throw herself into writing her own. The lyrics have been brewing for a long time, to retell her childhood, mark the passing of time and explore love. With these poetic and discreetly autobiographical texts, crystal clear voice, gushing emotions and appetite for melancholy, her trusty musicians by her side (Boris Gronemberger: guitar/drums and Luc Rambaud: keyboards/ vibraphone), Francoiz Breut set off on a adventure to compose an album open to everything and curious about everything.
All three musicians have embraced the adventure and the results are immensely rich, combining the fire of enthusiasm with the water of intimacy. Rhythm is important (clapping, tribal rhythms, multiple percussion) yet melody remains central, especially in the vocal harmonies.
This is a fresh start, a new beginning. The same familiarly graceful states, but also a doggedness to describe, a desire to speak without explanation, far from the norms of “la chanson”: few rhymes, few choruses, sometimes tricky to swallow and demanding to be explored like a mysterious forest. “I play with words, even if they try to escape, like wild animals who know no reason” she sings in “Mots Croises”.
“Al’aveuglette” is the fourth album from Francoiz Breut but it’s also the first - of a new
chapter.

The 3 precedent albums of Françoiz Breut were songs of others people (Dominique A, Fabio Viscogliosi, Philippe Poirier of Kat Onoma, Herman Dune...) but now it s her first album with HER songs , and there are beautiful, simple and "saisissante" , with elegant arrangements. So, what do you think?
