Soul Jazz unleash yet another remarkably well researched, compiled and packaged CD/ vinyl compilation. 'Fly Girls!' is a retrospective of the much underrated female contribution to hip hop. It covers golden era 80's oldskool originals from razor sharp MC's. If you enjoyed the 'Ladies First' mix by Peanut Butterwolf then this will do the business for you. Man these ladies give the men a run for their money. Princess MC's 'Pump Up The Funk' being a particularly fine example. Aping the Strafe classic 'Set Off' and riding the rhythm with razor sharp precision. There are some seriously funky cuts on offer here from JJ Fad, Sweet Tee, MC Lyte, Two Sisters, Sequence, Cookie Crew, Bahmadia, Sparky D, Queen Latifah, Lady B, Tina B, Roxanne Shante and loads more. Loads of the tracks still sound Freshhhh.

features a stellar line-up of female artists who
have all defined hip-hop over the years, including
Roxanne Shante, Tanya Winley, Queen
Latifah, Sweet Tee and many, many more.
· The album covers all areas of female rap and
includes female funky hip-hop, old-school,
electro (and even Miami Bass) from the 80s,
90s and beyond as well as proto-rap from
Sequence (featuring a young Angie Stone) and
Nikki Giovanni (from 1969).
· As well as classic artists and cuts, ‘Fly Girls!’ also
features lots of rarities, obscurities and unknown
(but great) female Emcees.
· ‘Fly Girls!’ comes as a deluxe digipack
