Well Phil insists i've heard The Shaky Hands but I fucking haven't. No wonder I couldn't find the promo, we ain't had one. I had a review almost written in my head for the wrong band! Gah! 'Lunglight' is a CD on Memphis Industries and it starts with a rattling stripped down modern guitar number and proceeds along in this kinda Modern Lovers meets early Kings of Leon way with some classic sounding US post punk structures underpinning some good old melodic pop/rock. It all rattles along breezily, the guitar sharp & spindly, one track reminding me lots of very early REM and others making me think of tons of great New York bands ranging from Versus to The Strokes, even The Lapse in the airiness of the production. God he does remind me of Stipe occasionally this singer. Yes, the songs are pretty cool on first listen, catchy, minimal & unfussy. I'd like the chance to hear it again when i'm not in a rush but judging by the first half, there's nothing remotely approaching a duffer, just well rounded tunes for the less brash/mature US indie fan.
