The other week Ant and I where wondering what had become of Mr. Motivator. We thought he was probably in a smack den somewhere, comatose on a dirty mattress with shit stains all over his leotard but it turns out we were wrong because he was on GMTV this morning making his comeback. They said that they'd 'brought him back from the Caribbean' which sounds like a racially dubious statement to me, but I'll let it go. He returns in the same week we bring this Nightech CD to you - coincidence? I think not. Deviation is on Russian label Lagunamuch who sent us a load of pretty damned good CDs a couple of weeks back, this is probably the darkest and certainly the droneyest. Most likely the ambientest. I don't think it's a million miles from someone like Fennesz actually, although this one's definitely more Sea of Tranquility than Black Sea.. The sense of isolation is amped up to MAX POWER and it'd work beautifully as a soundtrack to some sort of existential sci-fi epic directed by Bela Tarr or someone equally as slow-moving and contemplative. Ass tappin' good.

Nightech

Nickname Nightech conceals a talented painter of ambient structures, aka Ed Sherbakoff, living in a remote industrial city of Serov in Urals. Beginning from 2001 he has recorded about 10 original works on different labels in Russia and in Europe. His new album Deviation, written in space dark-ambient direction is another sound experiment dedicated to research of transition between outer sound spaces by means of music and a thought. This is a message from extraterrestrial worlds that has occasionally found the receiver in thounds of light years.
