Lily Allen
The Fear
A Norman Records recommendation (23rd January 2009)

This record left our Brian feeling ecstatic.
I'm probably gonna ruin any cred I ever had but i've a secret i've got to share. I fucking love Lily Allen, always have. She's got a right gob on her, and her pop tunes are pretty addictive. Comeback single 'The Fear' is a thinly veiled diatribe against shallow 'it' girls and their vacuous lifestyles. It's got a slightly more mature sound but is marked indelibly with her cheeky personality, appeals to me in exactly the same way as that Poppy & The Jezebels single. Just delicious radio pop with some classy electronic embellishment, a hearty nod to the 80's but modern & fresh, simple & timeless with her sing-song vocals taking on a more sophisticated edge, a little less mockney semi-conversational, more harmony & blossoming talent. I'll fight anyone who disses this single, I really do love it that much. It's in my head for all eternity now & i'm taking one of these fine picture discs home with me. Because i'm probably 12 years old again! On CD single too with different 'B' side.
