Le Chat Blanc Orchestra - Ste-Claire Hotel

Ste-Claire Hotel by Le Chat Blanc Orchestra

Make Mine Music seem to be pouring out the releases these days and here is another one by ....I don't know I can't read the cover.....let me check...... its Le Chat Blanc Orchestra which is a collaboration between Pascal Asselin (Millimetrik, Below the Sea) and Mathieu Grise (Destroy All Dreamers). I am delighted to report that its absolutely lovely. The album is made up of haunting orchestral drones that swell and retreat like waves crashing on the shore. The main comparison would be Stars of the Lid but Ant (in his big boss chair) has thrown the word Celer into the mix. Oh hang on.....about half way through some whispered vocals come into the mix which is something I didn't expect and kind of destroys the textured ambience for a moment before the reverb heavy synth washes wrestle back control.

Le Chat Blanc Orchestra is collaboration between Pascal Asselin of Millimetrik and Mathieu Grisé of Destroyalldreamers. Pascal has been long involved in music, notably as the drummer for Canadian post-rockers Below The Sea, before going solo under the moniker Millimetrik. He is also involved in a variety of other musical projects, a DJ, a remix artist, and head of micro-label Chat Blanc Records. Mathieu Grisé plays guitar in Montreal’s post-shoegazers Destroyalldreamers, and also releases music under the name Ixe-13. Pascal and Mathieu have been collaborating for a few years, with their latest project Le Chat Blanc Orchestra exploring more ambient textures, inspired by Brian Eno, Stars of the Lid and classical music.
