J Tillman was one of those American guys stumbling around, releasing the odd album, playing the odd show when he got asked to join a then unknown group called Fleet Foxes & since then... well.... his life has turned upside down. So where does this leave his solo career? Well obvious straight away he now has a record deal & theres going to be a tonne of interest in what he comes up with. To that end its unfair to expect this solo LP to live up to the stratepheric levels of his parent band but even given the extra pressure this is a nice jaunt down the backroads of American alt-country/slowcore. The major comparisons would be Songs Ohia and in particular Scud Mountain Boys the band that became the Pernice Brothers. Fans of Bon Iver will love its stripped back feel. One for late at night I feel. On second listen its growing on me which is always a good sign.Be the first to review this record. Best reviewer each month gets £10 off their next order!
