Tanlines - New Flowers

New Flowers by Tanlines

· Tanlines are Jesse Cohen from Professor Murder, Eric
Emm of Storm & Stress and production duo Brothers
(Telepathe, Free Blood, !!!). The Brooklyn based duo came
to some prominence / notoriety earlier this year with a playful,
synth-led remix of Telepathe’s ‘Chromes On It’.
· Their unique approach to having their music heard includes
using YouTube to post tracks accompanied by self-made
videos on their own channel as soon as the songs are done,
creating a bizarre, almost psychedelic visual experience of
Tanlines music.
· Tanlines’ aesthetic falls somewhere between production duo
and band, in which a rehearsal means writing and recording
new songs, and a performance can take place at a warehouse
show or DJ booth. In the studio, they operate under the hiphop
model of making tracks and collaborating with guest
vocalists.
· The 12” features the Balearic house-meets-Larry Levan’s
NYC disco groove of ‘New Flowers’, a track created when
artist Marisa Olson asked them to contribute to the launch of
her art book, ‘Poems I Wrote While Listening to the
Doors, 1992-1994 (Before I Found The Internet)’. They
took one word from the suggested poem and created this
euphoric (mostly) instrumental track.
