Grace Jones - Williams Blood

Williams Blood by Grace Jones

4...according to our on Thu 04 Dec, 2008.

Would you believe that Grace Jones is back on the scene strutting her disco diva prowess on Wall Of Sound of all places. She's a disco original without a doubt and her return to the limelight is well timed with the current disco revival. 'William's Blood' is the first single to be lifted from her new album. I heard it a few weeks ago while the missus was driving. It was on Pete Tong and I think it was the only tune he played that didn't make me want to open the door and fall out onto the M62 while doing 85mph. It has real nods to old disco but with a more contemporary club feel with all the usual current production tricks. She was actually being interviewed on said show and came across as a bit fucking bonkers like. Brett's just taken his shirt off. He thinks he's at Studio 54.... You get an Aeroplane remix and one from Mad Professor, who adds a tropical flavour. Oldskool geezer Greg Wilson does a mix and all.

· Grace Jones is without doubt one of the most recognisable voices and images in
music history. Paving the way for contemporary dance music as we know it through
a string of landmark albums (and tracks) including the classics ‘Nightclubbing’,
‘Living My Life’ and ‘Slave To The Rhythm’.
· As well as her huge legacy in music she has also left her mark in fashion, film and
popular culture through collaborations and associations with Andy Warhol, Keith
Haring and Jean-Paul Goude and starring roles in films such as the James Bond
movie ‘A View To A Kill’. She was one of the first artists who managed to cross
every barrier whether it be cultural, sexual, race or creed.
· Four years in the making, the ‘Hurricane’ album features a stellar cast, including
Sly And Robbie, Brian Eno, Tricky, Tony Allen, Wally Badaroo among others
and was produced by Ivor Guest.
· The buzz about her comeback is already massive, fuelled by a critically acclaimed
festival stealing performance at the Royal Festival Hall for Massive Attack’s
Meltdown, incredible outdoor performances at Secret Garden Party as well as a
surprise guest appearance at Bestival in biblical weather conditions.
· ‘Williams’ Blood’ is the first single from ‘Hurricane’ and will be released on a
strictly limited edition 12” (1000 copies) and digital download.
