Japanese producer Quarta 330 is back on Hyperdub with a 12" housed in their fancy new sleeves. 'Sabbaco' is one of his originals as opposed to the chip tune remixes he does. It's a melodic bleeper that's got some nice bits, pleasant synth washes, rumbling bottom end (like our Brian) and some vocal samples but it fails to really grab my attention. Although I'm sure if I heard it out I'd get well into the groove. The flipside is a remix of a Cardopusher track 'Homeless'. For this one he's back on the case with that oldskool/8-bit video game crunch technique. It' all gets a bit tricky and cut up but still the head nodding groove is there and some meaty bass. This would no doubt wreck your head blasting at you. It's quirky and playful but it retains a darkness and heavyness that make it more than just novelty. Proper squelchy and crunchy action with silly arcade melody and 'Sounboy go home..' sample. If you dig Zomby's liquid dancehall then check this wonker out. After the 8-bit cult classic success of his debut Hyperdub release, which surprised dancefloors around the world in late 2007 and continues to do so today, Tokyo’s Quarta 330 returns with some fresh beats to crown the close of 2008. Both tracks were previewed in clipped form on the recent BBC Radio 1 Hyperdub Showcase. On ‘Sabacco’, Quarta takes one step outside of the video game console, expanding his palette, with his signature synths lacing scattered, highly-swung snares in a lush and melodic slice of broken techno. On the flip, Mr. 330 steps up to remix renegade Venezuelan bassman Cardopusher, with a refix of ‘Homeless’ that returns to the crunchy arcade vibes of ‘Sunset Dub’ and the ‘9 Samurai’ remix’ showcased on his previous release. A strong outing that adds bonus points to his earlier Hyperdub high score.
