OK finally and quickly from me as I'm running behind (as ever...) is the 7" by Dinosaur Pile Up on Friends V Records. This is a smashing indie rock 7" I have to say. In fact as far as indie rock singles go it's one of the best I've heard in ages. Ok it sounds a lot like Weezer. There's a boyish charm about it as well and the whole poppyness about it reminds me of The Cribs. It's very American sounding.... nice big sounding wonky guitars. Very meaty sounding.... like a massive ploate filled with steak for example. My Rock n Roll does it for me wierldly enough.TRACKLISTING: (A) My Rock’n’Roll (B) Love is a Boat and we’re Sinking
OVERVIEW: Dinosaur Pile Up release their debut limited edition single, ‘My Rock’n’Roll’,
Dinosaur Pile Up being Matthew Bigland, who plays guitar while singing; Tom Dornford-May who plays bass guitar and Steve Wilson who plays drums.
Borne out of a love of early Foo Fighters, Weezer and late Presidents Of The United States Of America, Dinosaur Pile-Up began a few months back in Leeds. They reside in their Mount Fire HQ and drive around in a six-seater Burning Inferno that goes by the name of ‘Truck Delorevan Bigland’. Their songs are proving very popular among people who like to go out to watch rock bands.
Their interests include animals, space exploration, Nintendo, Wes Anderson, Japanese food, listening to music while looking out of the window, stickers, the great outdoors, nostalgia and Michael J Fox (in washed-out blue jeans and on a hoverboard, kicking’ ass).
After live dates with The Automatic and The Kills, and appearances at the Reading and Leeds festivals, Dinosaur Pile-Up strike out on their own with their debut release for new label Friends Vs Records.
‘My Rock’n’Roll’ is a growling, swaggering statement of intent that’s been opening their shows all year. The 7” also boasts the early bedroom demo, Love Is a Boat And We’re Sinking. Watch it fly as it opens their career…
Dinosaur Pile-Up have also recently been featured on the NME stereo and radar, as well as having been added to the NME Radio A-list and chosen as Zane Lowe’s single of the week.
