Plug - Fresh Pleasures

Fresh Pleasures by Plug

Plug are the latest hopes on Parlour Records, home of Le Tetsuo & Factory Floor amongst others. A double header of post punk femme fronted minimalism with a real nod to Au Pairs & The Slits. You know, sparse tub thumping, conversational spiraling bass patterns & tribalistic vocal harmonies topped with one of those cute wurlitzer style organs trilling underneath. I can't say if this style of music is a pastiche or not as it's never really gone out of fashion and these 2 tracks feel like a continuation of a theme, rather than a weak tribute. One of my fave bands were Erase Errata and all they did was filch from those grey days in the early 80s and put their own spin on proceedings. I think along with the utterly fine Wetdog, these lasses have a classic niche filled with some absorbing, stark sketches and I'm more than happy to give this my thumbs up! Nice touch with Mandela on the 'Fresh Pleasures' 7" label too!
