Hart Gore by Gore

Listening to John Peel in 1987 (yes, I really am that old) I used to tape snippets of anything that sounded interesting & one band that stuck in the mind were Gore. A bunch of Dutch misfits who basically pioneered a slowed down Grindcore aesthetic with huge sludgy doom riffs, punishing drums that sounded like they were being bashed with human bones by shaggy cavemen & last but not least some sinister looming bass pummeling. The music contained on 'Hart Gore', the first wing of the reissue programme Southern Lord have embarked on is certainly built from the molten evil walls of metallic guitar I fondly remember, and those seriously heavy, pounding drums. It's an endurance test but an exhilarating one. I remember Peel saying he'd had more complaints about their Peel session than any other in the history of the programme. It IS indeed relentless & claustrophobic instrumental rock, built from granite but there's some amazing galloping rifferama on here that puts a lot of their acolytes to shame. If you've been creaming yersen for years waiting for this & the second album 'Mean Man's Dream' then you'll be delighted at the addition of many live & rehearsal versions tagged on, and the lush double vinyl sets that are probably much more affordable & nicer than the originals. I can't really sell this band to you anymore except I'm not surprised they're so feted in the serious heavy rock/fringe metal world, they really did take the Sabbath template to new places & broke fresh ground. If you're into playing air guitar you could wear out 3 tennis rackets with these 2 classic sets! On CD and two part double vinyl!

An essential reissue of the first two albums from this seminal instrumental Dutch band who ruled in the 90s. With their use of repetitive heavy rolling rhythms and bombastic execution (sans vocals) Gore pioneered a new style of music for the time. Gore’s sound is a monolithic one, uncompromising and seemingly singular in its vision.
