Kode9 is back and teaming up with some person called LD who isn't LV from those LV and Dandelion 12"s which is a shame because that probably would've been better. 'Bad' isn't really bad but it's not particularly good either and it's nothing like the Kode9 we've come to know and love, a worrying sign that he might be falling into that bottomless well with 'diversification for diversification's sake' painted on the side of it in runny blood. So yeah, what you get with this one is pretty much a half-decent house tune with a bit of a dark feel. The mix on the other side is better, but not astoundingly so. Brian says this 'sounds like sex in a bad toilet' which is a far more succinct summary than I've managed. Love these new Hyperdub sleeves though!

Switching up the styles again, this Hyperdub release features two off-beat, house flavoured dubs driven along by crushed synth piano hooks. The tag team between Kode9 and LD (dub-cutter extraordinaire from the legendary Transition studios in South London) brings percussion and cut-up, filtered female vocals back into the mix. The A-side ‘Bad’ has been circulating on dubplate since the beginning of 2008 and has been a dancefloor friendly favourite from Kode9’s DJ sets. The flip ‘2Bad’ sounds like ‘Bad’s’ little sister, a slower slice of broken house laced with synthetic soul, and that little extra underneath the pavement that you can always expect from Hyperdub.
