Faraquet - Anthology 1997 - 98

Anthology 1997 - 98 by Faraquet

From Make Mine Music to the similarly admirable Dischord, a label very dear to many people's hearts - including my own. I reckon this release of Faraquet's output on the label is probably the first thing on Dischord I've heard since the last Fugazi LP though, things have been pretty quiet on that front. Oh yeah, there was The Evens wasn't there, those records are pretty good.. Bloody hell, I've only just found out that Ian MacKaye and that lady are together and have had a kid! You learn something new every day. J. Robbins of Jawbox/Burning Airlines produced the poppy discordance that makes up Anthology 1997-98 and apparently they've been 'newly re-mixed' but I don't really know what that means, is that some American way of saying 'remastered' or something different? With just little hints of the more post-rocky June of 44 and Rodan, what you get here is probably somewhere smack inbetween the harder-edged post-hardcore stuff of early Fugazi and the beginnings of what ended up being called emo before the term was horribly mutated into a catch-all phrase to describe self-pitying shites. It does sound of it's time but it's still quality stuff. Available at low, low Dischord prices on CD and LP!

Faraquet’s ‘Anthology 1997-98’ features newly re-mixed versions of songs recorded by the band in 1997-98 and released on various singles, plus one previously unreleased song and one out-take.

Producer J. Robbins as also worked with Jets to Brazil, The Promise Ring and The Dismemberment Plan to name but a few. He has also played guitar/sang in Jawbox and Burning Airlines.

Faraquet began as a side project featuring Smart Went Crazy members Devin Ocampo and Jeff Boswell, along with Devin’s high school friend Chad Molter (who had recently relocated to DC from Los Angeles).
