Plugs - Imaginary Friend

Imaginary Friend by Plugs

4...according to our on Thu 04 Dec, 2008.

Plugs have a 12" out on People In The Sky 'Imaginary Friend' is fairly decent electro pop tune. It's got a catchy thing happening that I reckon will appeal to fans of Hot Chip and Late Of The Pier. Decent quality pop with remix from new Lex guys Heartbreak who Italo it up a bit. Also mixes from Barringtone and Yuksek who I've never heard of and cant be arsed googling cos I'm off home for my tea.

Groove hungry UK four piece Plugs made friends all over with their Spring
debut ‘That Number’, clinching Zane Lowe’s Hottest Record In The
World, single of the week accolades on 6 Music and Radio 2, and love
pouring forth everywhere from NME to MTV, and various corners of the
blogosphere.
· ‘Imaginary Friend’ is an elegantly crafted tail of bitterness and payback
laid over wonky technoid riffs and skuzzy basslines, working around jacking
rhythms and Chi Town snares, all building to a portentous and stirring finale.
· B side ‘Real Celebrities’ takes a more Motorik approach to the rhythm
section, but delivers an equally satisfying song and more of the kind of
punchy hooks the band are in danger of getting a reputation for.
· Taking things off on a tangent, hot new Lex signings Heartbreak take
another Plugs song, ‘Bodyheat’, for a little trip around central Italy circa
1983, and return with a neat Italo – Electro version of the ‘Spacer Woman’
kind.
· With a handful of Plugs remixes of other new acts due (We Have Band,
Post War Years) and a break in the clouds seeing them gigging again from
November onwards, Plugs look like ending 2008 with the same kind of
momentum they started it.
