More drone for you. This time from Eyeballs on Gareth Hardwick's Low Point label. 'Europa' is a CDR release limited to 75 copies and it's 1 long 29 mins (ish) track. This is pretty minimal and it definitely works more as a headphones release I reckon. It doesn't seem like much is going on but then I got lost in it and came out 10 minutes later and someone had changed the clothes I was wearing. Fuck knows how I didn't notice that. Such is the power of ambient drone. It can take you off to another planet while someone robs you of all your dignity without you noticing. Think I'm gonna do all of my reviews in the niff now. Anyhoo this is a lovely piece of work and if you're into minimal drone music with a diploma in warmth then this is for you.Taking a side-step away from his usual musical guise of folk troubadour to focus instead on long form drone composition, Eyeballs is the alter-ego of Newcastle resident and employee of the Alt.Vinyl record store, Richard Dawson.
Composed using rudimentary keyboards and electronics, ‘Europa’ builds upon minimal drones, tones and textures over the course of 30 minutes to create a multi-layered and multi-faceted piece of music. The result is what you could only imagine if Popul Vuh stole the Time Lag Accumulator and headed north.
