Unlabel seem to be on a roll at the minute. If they were in a roll I'd eat them as I skipped breakfast ....Bloody starving... So blasting out at me is the organized cacophony that is Honey Ride Me A Goat with their alternative rock music that manages to be both very melodic, jerky and just all over the place. The arrangements are very imaginative to say the least. Phil and I are just discussing how one goes about creating such complex arrangements... The mind boggles. I guess it's just a case of jamming/ improvising and being able to play some good old skronking math rock and then finding the parts that work. Fuck knows but these guys sound like great fun. The pairing with fellow Kent dwellers Lakes on this split EP works well. Phil is reminded of Shellac on 'Sadie-Mae Glutz'. Actually we're all off to see Shellac at this ATP do in Birmingham this weekend where I will be on my best behavior... Anyway these guys sure know how to rock shifting from blazing screaming hardcore moments to extended repetitive moments that build. 'Frank Abignale Jr.' in particular is a good 'un. Ltd to 200 copies.Tracklist:
Honey Ride Me A Goat - 'Derek & Dot'.
Honey Ride Me A Goat - 'Beaney'.
Honey Ride Me A Goat - 'Frosty Popeye'.
Honey Ride Me A Goat - 'Second Song'.
Honey Ride Me A Goat - 'Periwinkle'.
Lakes - 'Sadie-Mae Glutz'.
Lakes - 'Frank Abignale Jr.'.
Lakes - 'Van Ritters'.
Information:
Here we bring together two of the best bands from Kent right now, Honey Ride Me A Goat and Lakes with both bands supplying around ten minutes of music each.
Honey Ride Me A Goat are a mysterious bunch of experimental folks who combine thundering guitar and bass workouts with jazz noodlings and have a fondness for a good curry while Lakes are all the best bits of post-punk, DC hardcore and the Sub Pop sound; like a flight of stairs falling down a flight of stairs.
It's a limited edition release - just 200 copies on CD in hand numbered sleeves - a very fine EP.
