Envy/ Jesu - Split

Split by Envy/ Jesu

4...according to our on Thu 06 Nov, 2008.

Just arrived is a smart looking white vinyl split from Envy and Jesu. It's a limited job on Conspiracy and we only have a handful... I was expecting the Envy side to be a lot heavier but they've really toned things down. On the first two tracks the mood is a lot more subdued and it's more floaty drifting post rock where the vocals are gentle and tender as opposed to the screaming he often does. Fear not though as he gives his voice box a bit of a shredding on 'Life Caught In The Rain' which is all full of drama with some nice melodies going on... Fuck me the Jesu side kicks off with a top drum machine electro break... Just waiting for Justin Broadrick's shoegaze sound to kick in.........hmmm some lovely strings...a lush melody.... but not quite what I was expecting at all although it's still unmistakably Jesu. Ahhhh and then the distant trademark vocal comes in and the tune is complete as the drums build. A gorgeous track. 'The Stars That Hang Above You' is another sublime cut until the intensity really builds, full of tension and then they vocals just lift it up. It makes me anticipate a big crescendo that probably wont happen. The drums are proper pounding away. I'm not arsed about the Envy side but the Jesu one is cool.

A strictly limited split release with Japanese epic screamo-postrock outfit Envy and Justin K. Broadrick's Jesu.
1. Envy - Conclusion Of Existence (5:58) 2. Envy - A Winter Quest For Fantasy (6:25) 3. Envy - Life Caught In The Rain (4:25)
4. Jesu - Hard To Reach (13:39) 5. Jesu - The Stars That Hang Above You (7:35)
