Founded in 2004 by Guy Meldem and Christian Pahud, Larytta is one of the most exiting and creative acts in
Europe at the moment. They prove it in style with their epic and highly anticipated and aptly-named debut album
‘Difficult Fun’, packed with lyrical modern pop music and infectious electronic beats, released on Swiss experimental
outpost Creaked who continue to enhance their reputation as a home to challenging weirdo-pop and refreshing
new crossover styles. Accomplished musicians and producers with a host of projects, collaborations and releases
under their belts, Christian is also known as the drummer for rock band Honey For Petzi, while Guy runs the notorious
design agency Körner Union and also produces under the pseudonym of Jetta.
Larytta’s previous single releases in 2005 and 2007 generated a strong underground buzz on a worldwide level,
with coverage from many key blogs and other media helping lead to tours with the likes of Jamie Lidell, Snax, DJ
Mehdi, Cadence Weapon, Round Table Knights, Justice, and others. ‘Difficult Fun’ reveals 13 intriguing and excitingly
quirky tracks, including some selections from their previous EPs.
The most impressive aspect of the album is its rich elements of musicality within a wide range of inspirations from
modern pop/soul to electro/techno, garnished with inspired dashes of African music, hip hop and R&B. Christian’s
sexy baritone and Guy’s rap style combine in promising chart-conquering possibilities, while their combined musical
aesthetics bring together weird electronic beats, dark rhythms, catchy melodies, hypnotic voices, guitar loops, radio
-friendly choruses, keyboards, and crazy home-made noises created in the Larytta lab. A refreshing mixture of music
styles which make Larytta stand apart.
“… multiplication-table rhythm tracks, a synthesised zoo of keysplash-stroke-cooing melody, and an apparent disinclination
to follow any given direction for more than a minute… such unasked-for creativity should and must be
rewarded.” – Plan B
“This is entirely danceable music that simultaneously needles the brain and makes you scratch your head and wonder
what in the hell is going on.” – XLR8R
“If you are looking for something truly original, this band definitely fits the bill. Strange titles parallel their strange
music. In this day and age, "strange" ain't bad; and Larytta shows this perfectly.” – Urb
