I've long been a devotee of Julian H. Cope, having being given cassettes of the first two Teardrop Explodes at the age of 10 (they're still absolutely priceless to me, those albums) so it's with much pride that I'm getting paid to review his new single. 'Preaching Revolution' is a 4 track red vinyl 7" EP full of neat, folksy protest songs stamped with the Archdrudes sideways political humour & social commentary. Once again, he's far too much of a legend in my childlike eyes to do much justice in the form of cyber text but if you're a fan, you'll find these marvellous sideways swipes at the powers-that-be cracking fun, the 3 short tunes on the 'A' side shining especially with a homely prowess he can surely call his very own. A perfect companion to the return-to-form that is 'Black Sheep'. Long live the gangly megalithic loon. The new E.P. is entitled PREACHING REVOLUTION and the exclusive songs are as follows : Side One : 1. Mother, Where Is My Father? 2. I Wanna Know What's In It For Me 3. Fuck Me USA / Side Two : 1. Preaching Revolution. This very limited 7” is an edition of 1000 copies only . The EP release sits alongside Julians latest album Black Sheep. Black sheep is a musical exploration of what it is to be an outsider in modern Western Culture. Across 11 songs and one epic poem, Cope examines the idea of social outcasts and how they — through their sheer obstinacy and strength of personality — carve a path for themselves in the normal world, often changing societyís own concepts of normality in the process. The album and EP reveal Cope at a pinnacle of songwriting and feature sumptuous lashings of orchestral Mellotron, orchestral percussion and marching bass drums, plus oboe, wah guitar, rumbling synthesizers and gorgeous harmony vocals. Julian Cope plays The Royal Festival Hall on November 18th
