Situationists - Onwards & Upwards EP

Onwards & Upwards EP by Situationists

3...according to our on Thu 27 Nov, 2008.

Situationists are one of those bands whose packaging far excels their music which is that kinda skinny jean & checked Vans loafer clever pop ala Foals, Futureheads & Bloc Party. It's not bad music at all, just bores the pants off me with it's schizo twists & turns. I find it all a bit dull as the tight musicianship far outweighs the quality of tuneage and I've heard approximately 86 bands in the last fucking 4 years who peddle this kinda shit and although these're probably better than most at this hyper flighty math flecked indie, Situationists are one art project that needs binning as they have the undoubted talent but don't bring anything remotely new to the table. Sorry! 'Onwards and Upwards' comes on a 10" in a gatefold sleeve, with the CD housed on a big squishy nipple. Mmm! Squishy nipple.

Gatefold 10" and CD set. The second EP in a three part series and follows their now sold out debut released in March. Recorded in their self-built studio during the summer of 2008, the Onwards & Upwards EP is testament to a strongly defined DIY sensibility. While continuing to display their effortless ability to craft the quintessential indiepop song, the flexibility of their own recording studio has allowed Situationists the time to develop and expand their sound.  Referencing the early 90s bands centred around the Kinsella brothers – The Promise Ring, American Football, Owls – Situationists display an adventurous experimentation that is nevertheless still charged with their trademark pop potential. Tracklisting 1. This Is A Show 2. A Cold Front 3. Fireworks 4. Onwards & Upwards. "The kind of guitars and vocals that give people hope that some of the indie pap in the charts at the moment might just get edged out for tunes that you don't mind going round in your head.”  Artrocker / "Wide-eyed energy and youthful exuberance - not to mention melodic intricacy - that's sadly lacking from other guitar bands of Situationists' ilk. 8/10 "  Drowned In Sound / “With their vocal harmonies and sweet guitars, they have the potential to steal Hot Club De Paris' crown”  The Fly / "I like them a lot" John Kennedy, XFM and X-Posure Big One. The success of their debut - the This City Holds Us All EP - resulted in significant radio play support from the likes of John Kennedy, Steve Lamacq, Huw Stephens and Tom Robinson
