Polyp E.P.

This record left our Ant feeling happy.
Youthmovies have a CD EP out on Blast First Petite. The cover has some bloke in his undies whose torn out his heart and is happily munching away on it. I'm not sure what they call it when you start eating yourself to death. Some kind of suicidal cannibalism. You start off biting your nails and then you get the taste you see.... Okay so this 6 tracker 'Polyp EP' is a little different to what we're used to from these chaps but is no less potent. I particularly like the choir singing on first track 'Magic Diamond'. Evidence that you can't really pin this band down. 'Magdalen Bridge' is a very atmospheric little number, full of warmth and... erm he just said "arse holes". I hope he doesn't kiss his mother with that mouth.

What their label says...
Youthmovies are back to prove themselves once more as one the UK’s most interesting & musically diverse independent bands. The dynamic and passionate delivery of their unique convergence of music styles quickly made them as the NME say "Beloved of New British Underground", and their pioneering of this highly contemporary, genre skewing music has it's background in the disparate music of geographically near neighbours Radiohead, and associated sound-world cousins, Battles. This six track E.P shows the boys in their more reflective mode, a pastoral sounding suite for this years non-summer. Autumnal hymnals, choir boy chorals and mothy horns flutter by. Vocals hinting at a young Morrissey, or the cheeky monkey-isms of old Mr Albarn. A "Perhaps Pop" . A new English Strange. Gently NOW !
