The Camel's Back

This record left our Brian feeling happy.
Psapp I really like. They're on their 3rd album now, I think, and it's another move forward sonically. They've started to really indulge themselves with the calypso/lounge/jazz side of things, no longer sounding like a lady-led Tunng. This new album 'The Camel's Back' starts with the sexy, swinging 'I Want That' which I could see setting the scene at trendy eateries around the globe. It's so much fun it makes me wanna have a foodfight. Chugging along, there's ballad-ey waltzier spots and melancholy plinky moments. 'Fickle Ghost' is more reminiscent of older material, an eerie little organ over wistful electronic pop. It's a varied, sweet & accesible album with more commercial segments where there used to be more kooky oddness, bizarre whirrings & an earthy quirkiness. It's still present in reduced measures, and is a large part of their appeal for me so if they reach a wider audience with this collection of fine pop I'll be really happy for this lady duo, they really deserve it! digipak CD/LP to come on Domino.
