God. I remember proclaiming Bloc Party the dog's knick knacks when we got their debut in all those misty years ago. Me 'n' Philbo Baggins were quite taken with their propulsive new wave. Now on their 3rd album, i've got the new single 'Talons' and it makes me feel old & confused. Technically, it's great, they're tremendous musicians and are constantly evolving their style, integrating their rousing anthems with all manner of technological flourishes but I can't help feeling a little cold, like i'm listening to an cocky machine spitting out stadium stompers for the latest blank generation. It's not their fault, they are indeed massive these days and need to keep the masses happy and I'd rather boundary pushing pioneers than hopeless luddites to quote Kele. This music is designed for the radio to make you forget you've spent 2 hours stuck on the M25 in the pissing rain and your wife's having an affair with the hunky teenager from 3 doors up. Hmmmmmmmmmmm.THE NEW SINGLE FROM BLOC PARTY WAS PRODUCED BY PAUL EPWORTH AND IS THE LEAD SINGLE TO THE BAND'S THIRD ALBUM 'INTIMACY'.
7"1 AND THE CD BOTH FEATURE THE LAST EVER PAUL EPWORTH PHONES REMIX.
The single is released on 7", white vinyl 7" and Maxi CD on the 20th October 2008.
