Casiokids - Gront Lys I Alle Ledd

Gront Lys I Alle Ledd by Casiokids

4...according to our on Thu 23 Oct, 2008.

Casiokids are from Norway. I thought on first glance they were from Wales, the only country where non-English language 7"s casually wander into indie shops jump on the shelves and pluckily sell themselves with not a care in the world. So nice to get a Norweigan language 7" in. It's called 'Gront Lys I Alle Ledd' and is a kinda blissed out motorik indie pop song with some wonderful psychedelic overtones. It's really sweetly produced stuff that should appeal to fans of fans of Dungen & prime SFA. The flip 'Togens Hule' is a spaced out, wibbling prog-bopper of a tune. Slightly cheesy but in a fun rather than naff way with lots of crazy clangers effects and Fraggle Rock ad-libs. True Scando-pop, this could have been the alternative sountrack to the summer. Except it's October and these 'kids are a bit mental, like. Quality. On the Moshi Moshi singles club.

“My other favourite Norwegian discovery, Casiokids…switch styles so much that it’s hard to really pin them down—variables include high, winsome vocals, rubbery 8-bit melodies, dancey backing tracks, slashy post-punk guitars, a multi-media stage show with various kinds of puppets and video projections, and jugenerally a sweet and crazy party vibe.” – Pitchforkmedia.com review

Festival favorites, Casiokids are set to release their new single Grønt lys i alle ledd/Togens hule on Moshi Moshi Records this October. This will be the first ever Norwegian language pop single to be released in the UK. Politely refusing to accept the notion of b-sides Casiokids will give out an aa single as the latest in the select band of artists in Moshi’s Singles Club which includes Florence and the Machine, Kate Nash and Lykke Li.
Old analogue and trashy keyboards, pop melodies and a digital & shadow puppet theatre make up the Norwegian electro-troupe that is Casiokids. The band sprung out of an idea of making electronic music more visual, but developed further into a collective of theatre blended with pop melodies often sung in their native language and influenced by afro-beat, techno and out-and-out pop. The music draws similarities and takes inspiration from Paul Simon's "Graceland", Ivor Cutler, King Tubby, Bob Hund, Cornelius and Fela Kuti.
Apart from doing an extensive tour in Norwegian kindergartens, Casiokids have also played for indie kids in Paris, festivalgoers in England & Denmark and all over Norway since 2005. The band have also played several renowned festivals and venues, including Roskilde Festival, The Great Escape Festival, City Showcase Festival, Luminaire, Sous La Plage Festival, La Fleche d'Or and Øya to name a few.

With the release of their first UK single and a week of dates in September marking their third visit to England in less than 6 months, Casiokids seem poised to be the latest in a long line of artists from the celebrated Bergen scene to rattle the cages of UK audiences and industry. Think Whitest Boy Alive, Røyksöpp, Datarock, Annie, and Erlend Oye and you have some idea of the international potential contained in this rainy city on the west coast of Norway, which Casiokids call home.  And it seems certain that the band will be spending less and less time there as word spreads about their sensational live shows, indietronic extravaganzas and catchy as hell tunes
