Beatnik Filmstars - The Purple Fez 72 Club Social

The Purple Fez 72 Club Social by Beatnik Filmstars

‘The Purple Fez 72 Club Social’ finds the band taking a new mellower ‘AMERICANA’ direction, with a warmth in the home recordings perhaps never heard before. Still as always,  recorded at home with no studios or computers used. Country - tinged twangy guitars, Hammond Organs, Accordians and Harmonicas, replace some of the more experimental noise pop of the past, and songs such as ‘Hospital Ward’ and ‘Sweet Bird Of Sorrow’ you could easily imagine someone such as Will Oldham covering. And the slow building- burner ‘Nurse My Head’  has an almost Spiritualized feel. Lyrically darker than their past perhaps, but all still with a unique style, and a sense of humour that Beatnik fans around the world know and love. More in line with artists like SILVER JEWS, WILL OLDHAM and LAMBCHOP (Who’s Kurt Wagner is incidentally a Beatniks supporter!) And although it is a step away from their lo-fi poppier past, it still sounds like no one but themselves. This could be your ‘album of the year’. Laid back, blissed out and gorgeous. The album’s opening line “There are racists in the USA, who brand Swastikas onto their cattle” should surely be enough to make the most hard hearted person melt and fall in love with this strange little band.  I'm not wrong, am I? ‘THE PURPLE FEZ 72 CLUB SOCIAL’ will be available as a CD and Download
