Dawn Chorus Ignites - Glimmer EP

Glimmer EP by Dawn Chorus Ignites

4...according to our on Fri 26 Sep, 2008.

I've just managed to squeeze one last one in before this goes out and it's the ninth release on the always impressive Distant Noise label. If you've been following the label then you'll know the score... Ambient , shoegaze type stuff. Dawn Chorus Ignites's sound fits neatly into the roster but what's different is they have a more post-rock sound. We're reminded of Explosions In The Sky at times. They do make a very dramatic sound mixing electronics with guitar, piano and drums. 'Turquoise Android' is a particularly haunting tune.'Glimmer EP' Numbered of 100 copies.

Dawn Chorus Ignites have been really busy boys this year and the new material is coming thick and fast - 'Glimmer' on Distant Noise is one of two releases out this year... the much anticipated 'Signs' EP is also due for general release very soon.

Mat and Ben created this project with a slightly different approach than that of their other release 'Signs'. Because they had the luxury of already know roughly what the artwork for the CD was going to be, they drew upon the style, colours and textures of the artwork and informed this in the creation of the music itself.

So the result is a melodic sweeping symphony of guitar based ambient shoegaze music, which picks you up and takes you on a journey of elated relaxed disorientation with hints of melancholic sinisterness and leaves you with a feeling of inner calm. In other words it really is rather good!

Ben Philcox:

"We wanted to approach this project differently than 'Signs'...  take time to add more elements to some of the songs... synth parts, sound effects and alike. Also the music itself is much more chilled out than some of the material on 'Signs' and this was really fun to experiment with."

Chilled out in many places this album maybe... watch out for a few rather more ear bending moments... you have been warned!
