Gotta hand it to these Muslims. Not only do they dare to have a slightly provocative name but they really know how to string together a raucous bastard of a tune. And they've shot holes in their record sleeves with real bullets. Hows that for hardcore? What's this MINI LP like then? Housed in a tasty screen printed sleeve (lovingly shot up!) you've apparently got the bastard child of The Fall, The Strokes & early Clean. I say add The Stooges to that list. Which gaurantees a place in my record collection, how 'bout you? This fabulous San Diegan 4 piece effortlessly bash out straight-up grooving US indie rock with heart & soul, deliciously caustic & trashy, wickedly melodic & massive fun. The drums thump garage rock style, the bass murmers deeply, pulling lots of funky minimal shapes & the vocals are somewhere between Iggy & David Kilgour therefore i'm having palpitations. And the guitar. That guitar is just ace, edgy shards of noise can turn into dinky little codas at the drop of a hat, sending shivers up your spine. These songs are well....perfectly formed, just like the embryonic classics I treasure from those aforementioned bands. They sound quite like an amazing lost NZ band and have that amazing raw, trashy yet somehow clear sound, feral but totally loveable. The tracks get progressively more experimental & unhinged as the record progresses whilst keeping to a tuneful core elemen. I'm truly excited to bits about these guys, they sound vital & utterly timeless. I can't say much more than just buy this (reassuringly expensive) mini album as they are sure to be clutched to the indie cogniscenti's bosom before the year is out then you'll be crying as your poor purse is raped on e-bay. Quality vinyl only on 1928 which has a bonus CD enclosed with all the 7 tracks from the vinyl plus 3 extra with a posh insert. Ridiculousy excited I am.We heard the single on I Hate Rock And Roll, we had to find the LP, this is raw, like Crime, the Fall, the Clean doing rocket from the crypt..its pretty much the tautest punk rock scree we have heard from the USA this past year or so, and by punk rock we mean rock, as opposed to noise (which we also like). We have a handful of this vinyl only release, in crzay sleeves, each one shot with real police bullets...highly recommended, and will be ebay fodder once they are snapped up.
