Megamoog - Icicle

Icicle by Megamoog

4...according to our on Wed 17 Sep, 2008.

I surprised myself by being quite keen on Let's Whisper, the last WeePOP! thing I had to review, so it's with trepidation that I approach Megamoog's 'Icicle'. Will our hero end up wearing primary-coloured plastic jewelry, dressing like a six year old and jumping up and down doing fast handclaps while squealing 'YAY!' every two seconds by the end of this review? Only one way to find out.. This is the usual 3" CD in a little brown bag sort or affair, if you're into these you know by now what the label's all about. You probably know what to expect with the music they put out too, it's always going to be rattling around the twee indie-pop neighborhood. Megamoog's name tells the rest of the story, this is charming, lo-fi and 'well Bontempi' as Ant so rightly says. If you've know any other WeePOP! releases then imagine those with a dash of Stereolab and you won't be hugely far away. I like it! YAY!

Megamoog has a beautifully unique aesthetic crafted from lo-fi casio beats, fuzzy warm organ melodies and a soft spoken vocal delivery, deftly creating shimmering slices of short danceable dreamy vignettes. The ep is limited to 160 copies.
